Thoughtful exterior care
A sample first. An informed decision next.
Old exterior paint can hide repairs, mixed masonry or areas of deterioration. It is not possible to promise pristine original brickwork simply from looking at the painted surface. A test patch provides useful evidence about removal difficulty and the appearance of the material underneath.
Different coatings require different approaches. Controlled wet blasting may be an option on compatible sound masonry; other situations may require a specialist alternative. The method should avoid unnecessary loss of the original surface rather than pursue complete removal at any cost.
Historic coatings may contain hazardous substances. Where lead or another concern is suspected, suitable assessment, containment and specialist handling are needed before disturbing the material. Waste and run-off must be managed for the substances actually present, not treated as ordinary clean water.
The quotation should set out the area, agreed trial result and any limits to removal. Residual staining, shadows or embedded coating may remain. Repointing, repairs, hazardous-material work and redecoration are separate items unless explicitly included in the agreed scope.
What your quote takes into account
- Coating and substrate assessment
- Hazard and access discussion
- An agreed representative test patch
- A clearly defined removal scope
Is this service right for your property?
Selected exterior coatings on compatible sound brick, stone or masonry following assessment.
Your questions, answered
Can every paint be removed?
No. Coating type, adhesion and the substrate determine what is feasible. A trial patch is necessary before confirming the likely result.
What happens if old paint contains lead?
Work must not proceed as ordinary cleaning. Appropriate assessment and specialist controls are needed for safe handling and disposal.
Will the brick be one uniform colour?
Not necessarily. Old repairs, staining and different brick types may become visible once the coating has been removed.
