Thoughtful exterior care
A careful clean for characterful brickwork.
Red brick is part of the character of many British homes. Soot, surface deposits and unsuitable coatings can obscure it, but aggressive cleaning can also damage a brick’s outer face. Brick type, mortar condition and any previous treatments must be understood before an approach is chosen.
Controlled wet blasting may be appropriate for certain sound surfaces and coatings. Other deposits may call for a different specialist method. Pressure, abrasive medium and working distance should be selected for the surface; there is no universal setting that is right for every wall.
Trial cleaning helps establish how much material can be removed and what the exposed brick may look like. Old paint can conceal repairs, staining or mixed brick types. Those variations may become visible as a coating is lifted, and complete colour uniformity should not be assumed.
Run-off, debris and adjacent materials need a protection plan. On older buildings, lime mortar, heritage significance and any listed status deserve particular care. Cleaning and repointing are different scopes, and defective joints may need attention before cleaning proceeds.

Is this service right for your property?
Compatible, sound brickwork and selected coatings following inspection and testing.
Your questions, answered
Will cleaning damage the mortar?
An unsuitable method can. The assessment and test area should identify vulnerable joints and whether a gentler approach or repair is needed.
Can you remove paint from brick?
Some coatings can be removed, but the paint type and brick condition matter. A test area is needed before confirming scope or expected results.
Do you work on listed buildings?
Any proposal for listed or historic fabric needs appropriate expertise and permissions. Cleaning should not begin until those requirements are resolved.
